IVA Guide for Dealing with Landlords

An debt advice news reported has given some tips to tenants looking to haggle down the price of their rent with their landlord.  With much media attention concentrating on the struggles of homeowners to meet debt repayments, the debt plights of people renting a property is often overlooked.  Chris Jenkins, manager of Clarity Commercial, believes that as the rental market at the moment is thriving "with plenty of demand for properties" it is harder for tenants to bargain with landlords.  But Mr Jenkins does think it is worthwhile for tenants to do some research to see if their rent has been set at a fair level. This would involve checking the rents of other comparable properties in the area that you live in.  He said: "Landlords like added security so if a tenant can provide a guarantor, pay rent up front or offer a larger deposit than usual, then there may also be some room for negotiation in the price."  Striking a deal could leave you with more disposable income with which to pay off your debts.
